Downsizing Fail

I have been packing since the beginning of March. So, the plan was to downsize a little bit, you know get rid of those items that are in the dark recesses of the cabinets and closets and haven’t seen the light of day in 5 plus years, even longer in some cases. I’ve been pretty good at deciding what should go. There’s been a ton of clothes dropped off at the Salvation Army.

I made a HUGE breakthrough with my husband’s obsession with hats. I was successful in getting him to give up some of his hat collection. This was not an easy task, as I have been making remarks over the years that he was starting to act like a hoarder. LOL! To my surprise, he let go of twenty-six hats, YES you read that right! He was willing to give up HALF of his collection. Super proud of you, baby!!

Now I, on the other hand have had a minor setback. We are suppose to be getting rid of stuff and here I am buying not just stuff but, furniture! I will say in my defense though that these furniture purchases were actually paid for by husband. Neighbors really need to stop having yard sales too. My gracious, who could pass up this beauty?

This is one awesome looking dresser!

And I couldn’t pass up this deal either:

Especially since it matches a set I already have.

Well, at least we will have plenty of room for all those winter clothes that we are going to end up buying! LOL!

It really is true that you don’t know how much you accumulate over the years. Going through the photo albums and my children’s school paperwork brought smiles and tears as I reminisced about the years and life we have had living here on the Crystal Coast.

As I continue the packing, I will try my hardest not to make anymore purchases that take up too much space but, I can’t promise that I won’t stop at those yard sales!

Good Eats

Updated to add: I’m really going to miss this place! I should have stated that to begin with, I’m new at this blogging thing and this probably won’t be my last mistake.

One thing the coast of NC is famous for is good seafood, and I eat my fair share but, every now and then I get a hankering for something that only El’s Drive-in in Morehead City can satisfy.

On our visit through Morehead City the other evening we stopped at El’s! I ordered my all time favorite!

The El’s Super Cheeseburger is the only sandwich I have ever gotten since my first visit in 1983.

I can’t even tell ya how many times people have tried to get me to try something else but, I never did nor would I. It’s one of those situations where you know your going to like what you normally get and your afraid to try something new in fear that it won’t live up to the hype, then your whole experience is ruined and your ticked at the person who suggested it, and you don’t want to have any ill feelings for a place you have come to know and love. So, the El’s Super CB was my go to, always.

If you’re ever in the area, I urge you to give this little charm a try. Take a look at their menu! You won’t be disappointed!

El’s Drive-in has been featured in several magazines, including Cooking with Paula Deen and Southern Living. Click here (scroll to bottom of page) to read how the Franks family got started in the restaurant business.

The Journey Begins

Thanks for joining me!

Good company in a journey makes the way seem shorter. — Izaak Walton

How fitting that this automatically generated quote be here as I start this site? We are beginning a new journey and welcome you to tag along for the ride!

My husband and I are moving across the country. We are leaving a place that is familiar and comfortable, after all we met here, we married here, we raised our children here. Our grandchildren are being raised here.

We’re leaving a place that has mild winters for a place that has blizzards. We’re leaving the known for the unknown. There are some upsides, it’s cooler there in the summer, we’re over the heatstroke weather here. We are leaving our friends and family but we know they will always be an intricate part of our lives.

Also, take into consideration that I’m taking a southerner to the north! Hahahaha! I’m originally from the area where we are going but he has only been there to visit.

We’re sure we are in for some awakenings on this journey, probably both good and bad. Some serious and others hysterical! We’re going to learn as we go and I’m sure we’ll learn new things about each other as we start this new chapter in our life.

We invite you to join us on this journey! I’m nervous yet excited about what the next few months hold. We haven’t set a final date but, it’s soon, like 3rd week of July soon.
